Leyla Ustunkaya, also known as Ley LOOSH is a visual artist who observes and is inspired by the cycles of nature. She expresses this via mixing media; in painting, installation, performance and video art forms.
Loosh sees signs through characteristics and patterns of existence; the species she depicts including animals, plants, humans, fungi, crystals, minerals or micro organisms can be seen throughout her artworks. Repetitive patterns emerge, just like the behaviours and properties of these chosen species. Messages or signs are brought to life via understanding these organisms and unity within duality is conserved. Elements appear and journeys happen.
Loosh is able to welcome and share the divine wisdom of nature’s spirits. Awareness rises around the subjects of sustainability, wild life, ecology and support of local artists.
LOOSH'S BEGINNING
A Turkish born visual artist with Bosnian origins, raised in France and based in London, UK. Inspired by nature and exploring relations between the seen and the unseen; with an unlimited approach to mixing media Loosh began a multidisciplinary journey a decade ago. After studying art at university, she moved to New York, USA for a year and began creating her group exhibitions. Leading her back to London in 2014 to produce her first group exhibitions called Colour me stupid, Safe-house and Home-Warming. No time wasted the idea of Anima Mundi and Mineralia were conceived during collaborations with her colleague, founder of Birds and Dinosaurs Studio.
With ‘Mycelium Network’ series and ‘Animal Spirit Wisdom Channel’ Loosh has been showcasing her paintings at numerous exhibitions based in London and Istanbul. Her medicinal approach to botanics and animals have been guiding her in networking, similar to mycelium: a network of fungi under earth connecting a variety of plants to each other; she believes that art connects us to each other.
LILA PLAYS
Lila Plays is a new project and artist name for live performances brought to you by Loosh. Her passion for analogue art can be seen as a big influence over her pieces and her innovativeness shown again via mixing media, a variety of collected specimens creating installations or totems, by using light. She forms mini habitats, each site specific and unique. Creating a series of what she calls ‘live-analogue visual shows’, stretching her skills onto video art. These mere transforming projections of created scapes portrayed by being projected on to walls, creating scapes. Some of her sets are called Crystal Dance-Floor, Re-Connect and Ikk Onkar.
Her interdisciplinary approach to being an artist; mixing, testing and breaking boundaries, since 2017 Lila has co- produced and performed in a set of performances based on the interaction between sound, art, movement and the viewer. Resonances Performances is a London based international performance crew often seen at Vortex Jazz Club or in places where it is open to the public. Thematically curating, costume designing and performing in these showcases Lila begins to explore the art of performance. An active artist during the 2020 lockdown she has organised and performed in a few online live performances called Memories and Resilience, also has hosted talks on art during lockdown, quarantine, memories and resilience.
Today active and open to collaborations/commissions internationally, Loosh continues to work as an artist and art teacher to youth; inspired by the Nature of existence; the vast world of mind, body and spirit.
